Butter Bridge is Underground

Saturday 18 Feb

£5, doors 7.30pm

The Butter Bridge family and 4Q are proud to welcome you to the third instalment of their occasional happenings, Butter Bridge is Underground. These mini-festivals boast a unique setting for some of the country’s finest underground artists, from comedy and music to live painting, installations and performance. Running from 7.30pm to the late hours at the KRAAK venue in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, the events are one of the most exciting, surprising and immersive alternative experiences the city has to offer.

On Saturday February 18th, after a magical mix-up at a travelling fayre, our audience will find themselves exploring a strange new world beneath the surface of the ground. Luckily some of the finest underground artists from around the country are hiding through the many tunnels to entertain their subterranean selves. Besides our hosts – the North West’s premier surrealist comedy collective The Animals of Butter Bridge, we have Manchester cult heroes Politburo and Butter Bridge’s own apocalyptic post-folkists Proud Proud People. They’re joined by some very special guests from Newcastle, lo-fi high flyers Acrobatic Society. There’s also some amazing guitartistry guaranteed from the very different but equally talented therunningchelsea – also from the Butter Bridge clan – and Manchester’s Greg Larkin. On the comedy front, we’re very pleased to welcome to strata The Bareback Banshees, a comedy duo well acquainted to the philosophy of the strange and uncanny that reigns at Butter Bridge. We’re also happy to welcome back tasty treat machine Fudgemental, besides a host of other artistic happenings on which to feast your eyes and ears, including dancers, live art and film. And all for a recession-proof £5.

We’re also pleased to have 4Q Magazine on board, which has recently become a national publication. They will be around for the event, filming and photographing for the magazine and the website, as well as providing support for the alternative and underground in Manchester and across the country.
