Flamingods

Weds 20 August Grey Lantern are delighted to present Shape Records’ Flamingods as they tour in support of brilliant second record Hyperborea! Flamingods is a five piece experimental band originally started by Kamal Rasool in late 2009 as a bedroom project, now comprising of Kamal, Charles Prest, Sam Rowe, Karthik Poduval and Craig Doporto. Hyperborea was written after new Visa laws forced Kamal out of the UK. As such, the album deals with themes of identity, belonging and alienation whilst also day dreaming of leaving to foreign far away lands such as the mythical island of Hyperborea. The album was made with none of the band members in the same room, sending audio files back and forth across the internet. Joining them at Kraak will be the multi-headed, multi-styled beast of The...

Let's Wrestle, Charles Howl...

Saturday April 5th http://www.seetickets.com/Event/let-s-wrestle/kraak/775165 Grey Lantern is delighted to present Fortuna POP! signings Let’s Wrestle, as the trio tour in support of their new self-titled third LP. ‘Their finest collection yet’ – NME ‘Bristling with ideas, it’s an album worth getting to grips with’.– Q More heartfelt and musically diverse than previous albums, Let’s Wrestle sees the band enter a new phase of maturity and sophistication giving front man Wesley Patrick Gonzalez a forum to showcase his songwriting talents and love of classic pop. Straddling the sounds of the psych pop pioneers of the 60s and the Laurel Canyon cowboys of the 70s, Gonzalez still manages to give the songs on the new album a quintessentially English twist. For the first time, strings and horns are brought in giving the record a bigger, fuller sound, drawing on inspiration from the likes of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Judee Sill, Harry Nilsson, Fairport Convention and The Kinks. Named by Lawrence (Felt, Denim) after a book by David Shrigley, Let’s Wrestle were formed by Wesley Patrick Gonzalez on guitar and vocals with Darkus Bishop on drums and Mike Lightning on bass, recording their first two albums with that line-up before Mike left and was replaced by Sam Pillay (who left after the recording of the new album to focus on his band Virginia Wing). The third album also saw the addition of Max Claps of The Proper Ornaments on guitar, along with guest appearances by Darren Hayman on B Bender guitar, Meilyr Jones from Racehorses on organ and Max Bloom from Yuck on...

Gary McClure

Thursday 18 April “Grey Lantern brings you the album launch for ‘Wreaths’, the brilliant debut album by former Working For A Nuclear Free City guitarist Gary McClure. Released through the legendary Edwyn Collins’ own label AED Records, ‘Wreaths’ is a far cry from the schizophrenic stylistic wanderings of Gary’s old band. Instead, he focuses on creating lush, emotive atmospheres, that act as a warm backdrop for his subtle melodies and reflective songwriting. His live band includes DBH, Trojan Horse drummer Guy Crawford and old WFANFC band mate Phil Kay.LISTEN: http://bit.ly/XPCN1E INFO: http://bit.ly/X6kKEv Supporting is Douga, the solo venture-cum-full band project of former Plank! drummer Jonny Winbolt-Lewis. Douga’s rich mix of warm psychedelia, Americana and more European experimental influences has so far spread itself across two EPs, Shadows And Aberrations and Mono Aware, while live it transforms to become an immersive exercise in release from repetition – subsequently picking up attention from BBC 6music’s GIdeon Coe, among others. An absolute must to get down early for. LISTEN: http://bit.ly/Yvr0qZ Poster...
