Politburo & Kingfishers Catch Fire...

8pm- 10:30pm, £4 otd Politburo are on a mini tour promoting their debut album ‘Sally & Prinss Revisited’: “Alexander’s songs are stories telling of blue tongued lizards, bible girls and rats’ skulls…it’s a gratifying trip.” (The Big Issue in the North) An endlessly inventive and dynamic recording, “Sally And Prinss Revisted” is the debut album by Politburo. Pleasingly hallucinogenic, through out the lp the band tightrope-walk a line between bucolic whimsy and a tougher willingness to forge ahead with noisey bursts, fuzz guitar and obscured sounds. At the heart of each song is a melodic sense that recalls the heady days of Kevin Ayers-era Soft Machine or mid period Gorkys. Peel back the layers and each component of every track seems expertly placed and a joy unto itself. (Rough Trade) www.politburo.co.uk www.11stsq.com with Kingfishers Catch Fire “…a boy / girl / boy trio, who have the girl on guitar, one smart looking fellow on keyboards and a singer who is both a poet, raconteur and emotionally flamboyant performer. Each nugget of a song was fitted out with retro-synth sounds and the twisted curl of a twangy but slightly distorted guitar – elaborate yet simple. This comes across with the delivery of Marc Almond (or at least the passion), as the bobbing digital beats mix in a light conversion of electroclash battling it out with an orchestral sci-fi ambition. This is an act I’d very much wish to encounter yet again.” (Manchestermusic) https://www.facebook.com/Kingfisherscatchfire/...
